EnviroTOX Burden

EnviroTOX Burden® Panel

Environmental exposures are an unavoidable reality of modern life. We are exposed daily to chemicals in food, water, air, household products, building materials, and personal care items. For some people, these exposures are tolerated reasonably well. For others, they accumulate quietly and begin to interfere with energy, hormones, immunity, and detoxification.

The EnviroTOX Burden® Panel, developed by Mosaic Diagnostics (formerly Great Plains Laboratory), is a comprehensive urine-based assessment designed to identify and quantify a wide range of environmental toxic exposures. Rather than looking at one category in isolation, this panel combines multiple profiles into a single, integrated evaluation to provide a broader picture of toxic load.

This panel includes assessment of chemical toxins, glyphosate, mycotoxins, and toxic metals, offering insight into exposures that may otherwise remain hidden.

What the EnviroTOX Burden® Panel Measures

The EnviroTOX Burden® Panel combines several advanced assessments into one streamlined test. It evaluates exposure to environmental chemicals through the TOXDetect Profile™, screens for glyphosate exposure, assesses mycotoxin burden through the MycoTOX Profile®, and measures toxic elements through a metals analysis.

Together, these components allow for identification of chemical pollutants, mold-derived toxins, agricultural chemicals, and heavy metals that can disrupt biological systems when exposure is chronic or clearance is impaired.

All components are assessed from a single urine sample, making the process efficient while still providing extensive data.

Why Environmental Toxicity Matters

Toxic substances can interfere with health in subtle but cumulative ways. Many act as endocrine disruptors, altering hormone signaling. Others impair mitochondrial function, increasing fatigue and reducing resilience. Some burden the liver and kidneys, slowing detoxification and increasing sensitivity to foods, supplements, or medications.

Mycotoxins from mold exposure can provoke inflammatory and neurological symptoms. Heavy metals can interfere with mineral balance and enzyme function. Chemical pollutants may disrupt immune regulation, gut integrity, and nervous system signaling.

When detoxification pathways are overwhelmed or under-supported, even low-level exposures can contribute to chronic symptoms.

Symptoms and Patterns That Often Prompt Testing

The EnviroTOX Burden® Panel is often considered when symptoms are persistent, multi-system, or poorly explained by routine testing.

These may include chronic fatigue, brain fog, headaches, poor stress tolerance, hormone imbalances, skin issues, chemical sensitivities, recurrent inflammatory symptoms, or difficulty tolerating supplements or detox protocols.

It is also relevant when individuals report known or suspected exposures, such as water damage or mold in the home, occupational chemical exposure, agricultural or landscaping contact, or long-term use of products with high chemical burden.

In many cases, the most telling clue is not a single symptom, but a pattern of poor resilience and heightened reactivity.

Understanding the Value of a Panel Approach

Environmental toxicity rarely occurs in isolation. Chemical exposures, mold toxins, and metals often overlap and interact, placing cumulative stress on detoxification pathways and organ systems.

Using a panel approach allows for a more complete assessment of toxic burden without requiring multiple separate tests. This not only improves efficiency, but also helps reveal patterns that might be missed when exposures are evaluated individually.

By identifying which categories of toxins are most relevant, interventions can be more targeted and appropriate, rather than generalized or overly aggressive.

How This Test Is Used Clinically

The purpose of EnviroTOX testing is not to provoke fear or drive extreme detoxification. It is used to bring clarity.

Results help guide decisions around exposure reduction, environmental remediation priorities, nutritional and lifestyle support, and the timing and intensity of detoxification strategies. In many cases, simply identifying ongoing sources of exposure is a critical first step toward improvement.

Interventions are always tailored to the individual, taking into account overall capacity, symptom burden, and readiness.

How EnviroTOX Fits Into My Process

I do not use environmental toxin testing as a screening tool for everyone. This panel is chosen when symptoms, history, and clinical patterns suggest that toxic exposure may be contributing to stalled progress or systemic stress.

It is especially relevant when detoxification efforts backfire, when sensitivity seems disproportionate to interventions, or when symptoms span multiple systems without a clear primary driver.

Testing is always used intentionally, as part of a broader clinical picture. The goal is to reduce burden, support resilience, and restore balance — not to overwhelm the system further.
