How We Work Together

Pure Alternatives functional health assessment and clinical pattern review

How I Work

My work is designed for people dealing with complex, persistent, or “stuck” health patterns — the kind that do not fully make sense when symptoms are looked at one at a time.

At Pure Alternatives, the focus is not on chasing symptoms, adding more supplements, or jumping into a protocol too quickly. The focus is on understanding the pattern underneath the symptoms: what the body is compensating for, where capacity has become limited, and what needs support first.

This approach is especially helpful when you have tried many things, reacted poorly to protocols, feel overwhelmed by conflicting information, or suspect that something important has been missed.

A Pattern-Based Approach to Complex Health

Many people come in with symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, poor stress tolerance, disrupted sleep, digestive issues, food or chemical sensitivities, detox reactions, inflammation, or difficulty recovering after stress.

These symptoms may appear separate, but they often reflect connected patterns involving energy production, mineral balance, stress physiology, digestion, elimination, environmental burden, and recovery capacity.

Rather than asking only, “What can I take for this symptom?” we step back and ask better questions: What is the body struggling to regulate? What systems are carrying the greatest load? What can the body tolerate right now? What needs to be supported before deeper work is considered?

The Principles I Work From

Clarity before action: Before adding more interventions, we clarify what appears to be driving the pattern.

Sequencing matters: The same intervention can help or backfire depending on timing, tolerance, drainage, stress load, and recovery capacity.

Capacity-aware care: Support must match the person’s real physiology, not an idealized protocol that looks good on paper but overwhelms the body.

Testing should serve the plan: Functional testing is used when it helps clarify direction, reduce guesswork, or better understand the relationship between symptoms and physiology.

Pattern recognition matters: Isolated markers rarely tell the whole story. The goal is to understand how systems interact together.

What Working Together Looks Like

We begin with your history, symptoms, exposures, stress load, current tolerance, and any testing already available. This helps identify which systems may be under the most strain and which steps are most appropriate first.

If functional testing is recommended, it is used to clarify the pattern rather than overwhelm you with more data. Depending on the situation, this may include mineral patterns, adrenal rhythm, environmental toxin patterns, digestive markers, or other functional indicators.

From there, the goal is to create a realistic plan that supports regulation, resilience, elimination, and recovery capacity in a way your body can actually tolerate.

Who You’ll Be Working With

Valerie Robitaille, PhD, is a Functional Health Practitioner and founder of Pure Alternatives. She has spent decades studying nutrition, physiology, functional testing, environmental stressors, and the physiological patterns commonly seen in complex and unresolved health cases.

Valerie's work focuses on identifying relationships between symptoms, stress physiology, mineral patterns, metabolism, detoxification capacity, elimination, resilience, and recovery tolerance to better understand why some individuals remain stuck despite extensive interventions.

Through educational content, functional assessment, lab interpretation, and environmental case review work, Pure Alternatives was developed to provide a more physiology-based and pattern-oriented perspective on chronic symptom patterns and recovery capacity.

What This Can Look Like

Someone may come in thinking the issue is simply fatigue, detox intolerance, or food sensitivity. But when the full pattern is considered, it may become clear that the symptoms are connected to low resilience, impaired digestion, mineral depletion, inconsistent elimination, stress physiology, environmental load, or a system that has been pushed too hard for too long.

That shift matters because once the pattern is clearer, the next step becomes clearer too.

What You Can Expect

You can expect a calm, organized, systems-based review of what may be contributing to your current health pattern. The goal is to reduce confusion, identify priorities, and help you understand what your body may be communicating through symptoms.

This is not a one-size-fits-all protocol or a push-harder approach. In many complex cases, meaningful progress begins with stabilizing foundations, improving tolerance, and building capacity before more advanced interventions are considered.

Ready to Begin?

If you are tired of guessing, trying things without enough clarity, or feeling like something important is being missed, a consultation is the best place to start.

We step back, look at the full picture, and clarify what your body may be communicating so you can leave with clearer priorities, better direction, and a more grounded next step.
